Blog Update
2013/07/13 at 9:14 pm | Posted in Blog Stuffs | Comments Off on Blog UpdateI know it’s been some time since my last post so I thought I’d make it short and sweet.
Basically, I was laid off from my job and never got around to renewing the 200by40.com domain that I’ve owned for years so as of now, I no longer own it. If you would like to keep following me, please update your bookmarks to https://200by40.wordpress.com.
Also, I’ve been fighting a stomach virus all this week which has seen me go from eating almost nothing (pre-doctor visit) to everything in sight (after taking prescribed medication). I feel better but not 100%.
Other than that, there isn’t really much new to report and I’ve honestly been a little down about being laid off. And because of my stomach virus, running has been put on the back burner for a week and possibly more. I’ll know when my stomach feels better. But that isn’t making me feel any better about things. I’d love to go run with the extra time I have but I just can’t.
And it’s gotten to a point where I’m not sure if I want to continue the blog or not. I’m just a little confused over what’s going to happen next in terms of a job, money, etc. I know my posts are few and far between as it is but I’m finding it harder to find the motivation to do this with everything else going on in my life.
So as of now, things are still up in limbo. I just want to say thanks to those who have continued to hang around and read what I’ve done so far. It’s very much appreciated.

2013 Chinatown Firecracker Bike Ride

So how did my Saturday go, you ask?
I woke up at 4:30 am, took a shower, got dressed, had a little breakfast, put the bike on the bike rack, hopped on the train, got to Chinatown, rode my bike almost 30 miles…and by the time I got home, it was nearly 3 pm. I was exhausted.
Anyway, here’s the day in pictures since I’m pooped. I am having trouble uploading the video of me lighting the firecrackers but when I can do it, I will post it. I had a great time doing that and riding today.
UPDATE: The video is up! Scroll to bottom of post.
Union Station is incredibly awesome. So many movies, shows and commercials were filmed here.
Chinatown
Waiting for the event. I got there way early.
My bike.
Firefighter giving us tips on lighting. We had to wear helmets and goggles and when the firecrackers went off, even where we were standing, the debris was hitting us. We also had an option to wear earplugs which I did.
Near the top of one of the many hills we had to climb. Believe me, this was just the beginning!
Dodger Stadium, still looking as great as ever (even under construction).
Pit Stops were set up every 10 miles with goodies like this.
Warner Bros. Studios Gate 2. I worked here when I was on The Whole Truth.
Roy E. Disney Animation Building.
Walt Disney Studios. I worked there when I was on No Ordinary Family.
River sans bike trail. We rode along another river.
With my medal. It was pretty small. Here’s a better view.
I don’t drink beer but I thought I’d try. And to this day, I don’t know what compels people to drink that garbage. It’s awful stuff (but was free to all riders after the tour).
Even got a free meal afterward. And Chinese food in Chinatown? Nothing compares.
All in all, it was a beautiful day and a great event with awesome volunteers. Thanks to all of them, the organizers, and to the LAPD for keeping traffic in check while we rode along.
And seeing Los Angeles and its surrounding areas by bike? It’s just amazing as the pictures show. Being on a bike gave me a better idea of how big Griffith Park really is since we rode through and around it at times. The first 5 miles of this course were uphill and hearing into Griffith Park — and they were killers! That’s why I was happy to see the two rest stops at Mile 10 and Mile 20. They provided much needed nourishment for the ride, a very demanding ride at that. Riders were treated to peanut butter, energy gels, trail mix, Gatorade, fruit, etc. and it was all we could consume.
The Chinatown Firecracker Bike Ride was one of the most fun, well-run events I’ve done. It’s very close to Long Beach in terms of organization, helpful volunteers, etc. And even with few street closures, I was amazed at how well-behaved L.A. drivers were that day. It just made the day that much more brighter.

Now on Twitter!
2011/09/05 at 8:39 pm | Posted in Blog Stuffs, weight loss, weight loss blog | 2 CommentsTags: diets don’t work, twitter, weight, weight loss, weight loss blog
I don’t know what took me so long to do this, but I decided to make a Twitter account for this blog. While I already have a personal account it tends to be for more personal stuff rather than information related to the content I create here. And since I figure none of my followers of my personal account would care to read my posts related to weight loss, this only seemed logical.
Not only that, since I find myself posting here with less frequency, a Twitter account seemed to make even more sense. It’s a quick way to get the word out about my thoughts on a story I saw online, foods I might be trying at the moment, a workout I just started (courtesy Endomondo), a quick photo, etc. In short, a more immediate way to communicate.
The account also gives you, the reader, a chance to send a quick message to me if you wish since I now have a smartphone and use the TweetCaster app to check for messages. Even more interactivity! I’ve even gone ahead and added a Twitter widget to the sidebar so you can see my most recent tweets. Neat-o.
But before we get started, I have a few rules in place which are listed below. Please read and understand them before proceeding any further.
On Following: I welcome anybody to follow me provided you are a genuine, real-life human being with interesting and topical things to say about weight loss. Whether you’ve met your goal or are just starting, I’d love to hear what you have to say so I can follow you in return. This also means that if you are not and are just using Twitter to spam the whole Twitterverse with links to bogus weight loss products or other half-baked snake oil weight loss schemes, you will be blocked and reported for spam. I will not argue with you; I’ll just block you. Remember that this blog is about how I lost weight the right way and not investing in fishy weight loss products because they simply do not work.
On Direct Messaging: You can also DM me if you wish and I’ll try my best to answer you or just say hello. But the same rule goes for DMs: spam me and I block you. Simple, huh?
With all that said, go ahead and follow @200by40 on Twitter and let the fun begin!
Updates and Stuff
2011/06/24 at 10:09 pm | Posted in Blog Stuffs, Discipline, Exercise, Health, Life | Comments Off on Updates and StuffHello! I know it’s been some time but things have kept me busy lately. I truly apologize for not updating the blog during that time; honestly, it fell on the back burner. But that’s why I’m writing tonight.
First of all, I have renewed my domain name so that’s good news. The only thing is that when you type in www.200by40.com, it will redirect you to 200by40.wordpress.com instead. That’s because I didn’t renew my domain mapping through WordPress but that’s okay because it will still get you where you want to go. Not only that, any old links that were posted with www.200by40.com will still be there only without the domain. Not really an issue.
In addition to renewing that, I will also be taking some time to do a little housework around here so if you show up and things are a bit out of place, I again apologize. It might be that way for a bit until I decide on what to keep or which theme to stick with.
I will get back to posting within the week and if not about my personal weight, then perhaps about products that active people such as yourself might be interested in. See my reviews about:
- FinishSafe Finish Tags which I got a few weeks ago and are awesome (and were free!)
- The Endomondo fitness app
- RoadID Bracelet
Wait, you’re not active? That’s okay because I wasn’t at one point, either. But now I go crazy if I can’t exercise. Once it’s in you, it’s hard to shake it and if you’ve made it here, then chances are you want to make the change as well.
Hang in there. I have lots to do. Thanks again for stopping by!
Update Bookmarks Again
2011/03/28 at 9:43 pm | Posted in Blog Stuffs | Comments Off on Update Bookmarks AgainHi gang,
It’s time for my annual notice! As usual, I want to remind you to update your bookmarks to include 200by40.wordpress.com.
Why, you ask? Because it’s time to renew my domain name and redirecting service and I’m not sure if I’m going to get them done in time so just as a precaution, I kindly ask that if you like what I’ve got going on here (and I do realize the posts have been few and far between lately), just add that URL to your list of favorites, your RSS feed, or by clicking the Subscribe button on the right.
UPDATE 6/28/10: Domain name renewed (yay!) but not subscription through WordPress. Give me until this coming Wednesday or Thursday when I have the money to do it 🙂
Thanks!
Dave
