Will the Week 13 be unlucky for me? Let’s find out.
Weekly Weigh-In for July 10, 2018 (Week 13): 233.0 lbs.
Loss/Gain for the week: 0.0 lbs.
Total lost: 11.8 lbs.
Weekly average loss (targeted goal: 1.14): 0.9 lbs.
I seem to recall saying in my last post that I was committed to losing 3 pounds this week so that I could get myself to 230. Well, that obviously didn’t happen. Granted it was very ambitious to begin with but this week I didn’t even drop a single pound — or even half of that.
I’m frustrated and annoyed with myself, especially now that my weekly average has dropped well below my targeted average of 1.14 lbs. I have 30 weeks left to reach my goal and that sounds like plenty of time but in order for me to reach it, I’ve made some changes.
First, I’m restricting myself from the elevator at the office. I work on the second floor and usually take the elevator but no more. Those extra steps will help out as will every little bit of extra movement I can get.
Second, I’ve gotten a membership to Planet Fitness. They are having a great deal that ends July 12: $10/month with $1 down, no commitment, and an annual membership fee of $40. It’s the basic membership that has some restrictions but if you’re just looking to get a good workout without the frills, you can’t beat it. I used to have a membership but canceled it because my location wasn’t open 24 hours yet. I like to get up early but apparently they didn’t. They’ve since changed to 24 hours and I’m okay with that.
I may have said in the past that I didn’t really need a gym but the weather out here has been downright dreadful. Last week, one day reached 114 degrees — I’m not exercising in that! I figure I can do a little of everything while I’m there also. This will be my new weekend routine and while I’ll miss going outdoors to run and ride, I’m not going to put myself at risk of getting heatstroke.
So that’s it. Time to turn it up — haven’t I said that already? — and get serious. Hopefully next week I’ll have better results. If I don’t, well, I’ll have to sit down and really figure out what’s going on.
Weekly Weigh-In, Week 12

Sorry about the late post, folks. I’ve been busy with the Fourth of July holiday and all that jazz, so I hope you had a good one!
Here are this week’s stats:
Weekly Weigh-In for July 3, 2018 (Week 11): 233.0 lbs.
Loss/Gain for the week: +0.2 lbs.
Total lost: 11.8 lbs.
Weekly average loss (targeted goal: 1.14): 1.0 lbs.
Grrr. It shouldn’t be going in that direction even if it’s just a small gain. But it is and I need to fix that.
Exercise was practically nil this week with none over the weekend as I’ve been fighting off a cold for a little bit. It’s hard to do much of anything when you’re congested so I did absolutely nothing.
I’m holding steady but it’s getting old still being in the 230s after 12 weeks. So I’m setting a lofty goal for my next weigh-in: 230 or 229. Sorry, but I’m getting a little angry here with the way things are going and need to motivate myself into getting serious again. That will be a loss of between 3-4 pounds by next Tuesday or Wednesday that I’ve committed to — I posted it so I have no choice, right?
That’s all for now. Hopefully things will be better by next week and more importantly, I will have reached the goal I set above.
See you next week!
Weekly Weigh-In, Week 9

First off, I have to apologize for the typo in last week’s post title. It should have been Week 8 but I had written Week 7. Not like anybody noticed or anything. But I did change it so everything is all better now.
That said, let’s see what this week brings me.
Weekly Weigh-In for June 12, 2018: 234.2 lbs.
Loss/Gain for the week: -0.4 lbs.
Total lost: 10.6 lbs.
Weekly average loss: 1.2 lbs.
Well, it’s better than last week in which I lost 0.2 pounds. Either way, I’m still above the 1.14 pounds per week in order to reach my goal but not by a lot. As I long as I keep it in that zone then I’ll be fine.
At work, I rode an average of 3.36 miles a day during lunch. And here was the weekend.
Walking/running:
As you can see by the little notification at the top, this was my best time for a 10k walk/run this year, besting my previous mark by a good 10 minutes. That means I did a lot more running this time around which makes me happy. It may take 4 miles for me to finally get in a groove but it feels good to run again.
Cycling:
Another improvement: an increase of 1.75 miles over my longest ride this year. I’ve been spending a lot less time on the bike trail and more on city street just for a change because, frankly, I needed it. The trail is nice but there’s something to be said about getting lost in your own city and discovering so many “new” places.
I did that during lunch today and found parts of the city I didn’t know existed, which made for some great photographs. I’m a big fan of abandoning your car and seeing anyplace by foot — it just gives you a better perspective of everything around you, and who couldn’t use a few extra steps in a day, right?
So that’s it. I’ve got a few days off coming up to attend my son’s middle school graduation and to spend the first day of Summer Vacation with the family. Plus Father’s Day is on Sunday but we’re not exactly sure what were going to be doing. All I know is this week will be a challenge so let’s see how I end up next Tuesday.
Thanks for reading!

Another week has passed. Let’s see where I’m at, and I apologize for not posting this yesterday — I was just flat-out tired.
Weekly Weigh-In for June 5, 2018: 234.6 lbs.
Loss/Gain for the week: -0.2 lbs.
Total lost: 10.2 lbs.
Weekly average loss: 1.3 lbs.
As expected, this week’s numbers are nothing spectacular even if they resulted in a loss. I’m still above my targeted average weekly loss of 1.14 lbs., the number I have to stick to in order to lose those 50 lbs. by my 50th birthday.
After a week of not doing much at all, I finally got back in to the swing of things and woke up early on the weekend to do my walk and ride, which looked something like this.
Walking:
Cycling:
That’s a total of 25.89 miles of activity over the weekend which isn’t too bad considering how I felt the week before. If not for those activities, I can assure you that this week’s results would have been much different. I’m also back to riding during lunch while at work, averaging a modest 3.5 miles each day this week so far. Every little bit counts.
Oh, and this. I promised a picture so here it is.
Yes, I’m wearing black and yes, my arms are folded. But it’s the most current picture of me that I like so it’s what you get. I’ll try to get a better one this week. And I’ll say this much: at least my face is looking a little thinner when compared to this post.
So it looks like things are continuing to slowly go in the direction I want them to and at the pace I anticipated. I’m happy about that but there’s still a lot of work to be done. I’m inching closer to the 220s, someplace I haven’t been in a long time, so it’s time to get my resistance up and avoid any absolutely, completely unnecessary eating or snacking!
That’s all for this week. We’ll see what happens next week! Thanks again for reading.
Weekly Weigh-In, Week 7

Hope you all enjoyed the extended weekend. I’m a little off today because of it but I’ll manage to make through this shortened work week 🙂
Now let’s take a look at this week’s results.
Weekly Weigh-In for May 29, 2018: 234.8 lbs.
Loss/Gain for the week: -1.8 lbs.
Total lost: 10.0 lbs.
Weekly average loss: 1.4 lbs.
Alright, so it appears I have reached a milestone here: 10 pounds lost since starting on April 10, 2018. But that comes with an asterisk.
As I mentioned on my previous post, I wasn’t feeling that well and instead of going for my daily 3-mile bike ride during lunch, I simply rode over to the parking garage and took a nap for about 40 minutes. That means very little exercise during the week and not doing anything this past weekend.
Whatever it was (allergies, possible cold, etc.), it got a hold of me and didn’t really let go until Friday. Granted I was well enough to eat but doing just about anything was a real chore and with someone on vacation at the office, I was doing double duty and refused to take a day off since I didn’t feel the need to. It was just a blah week.
So the drop of 1.8 pounds could be attributed to my being sick and I wouldn’t be surprised if next week’s results are much higher. I did have my share of food on Memorial Day, though.
But as of now, aside from a slight headache, I feel almost 100% and got back in the groove today by riding 3 miles. I’m looking forward to the weekend when I can get back into doing everything I missed doing last week. And for next week, I’ll see about posting a few pictures so you can see the results so far.
That’s it. Hope you all are doing well and see you next Tuesday, hopefully with results that aren’t as bad as I think they will be!
