Here’s wishing all my fantastic readers, friends and family — one in the same in my book — a very Happy Thanksgiving. Don’t dwell on the negative today; be thankful for all the positive you have in your life and make the most of it.

Just take at the news and see for yourself. Forget the football games, the parade, the feast. You have more to be thankful for than you think.

Me? This is what I’m most thankful for.

A common misconception people have when it comes to weight loss is that they will have to deprive themselves of the foods they love.

But anybody that’s on Weight Watchers Points programs knows that such is not the case for them.

Take this masterpiece for example. What you see is a barbecued hot dog I made this weekend. I had accumulated enough extra Points during the week to treat myself to something I really wanted but knew not to overindulge myself.

Save for the wiener that weighed a hefty 6 Points, the ingredients were nearly all low fat or non-fat: Trader Joe’s Diced Onions, relish, mustard, a small squirt of ketchup, and homemade pickles. The remaining ingredients–bun, Trader Joe’s Low-Fat Beef Chili and Trader Joe’s Lite 3-Cheese Blend–comprised the rest of the dog’s Points.

All in all I’d say it was about 10 Points if not a little under. (Basically, it was +/- a few Points of a Noah’s Asiago Cheese bagel with cream cheese. What would you rather have?!) And let me tell you, people, it was good. But I guess when you pay a nice price for meats at Omaha Steaks, you should expect nothing but the best.

The thing filled me up to the point where I didn’t feel the need to eat dinner but doing so is downright silly. In fact I can’t even recall what I had for dinner that night but I assure you I did eat something.

So there you have it, kids. Remember, you can have stuff like this when you’re trying to lose weight; you just can’t have it all of the time. Moderation is the key to successful weight loss if you choose to indulge and while it may not seem all that easy (as I know firsthand), it is definitely possible.

Alright, so I’ve got less than 10 lbs. to go! I’m gettin’ there, guys! It’s almost time to party like it’s 1999! We’ll see what my Weekly Weigh-In totals are tomorrow. I think they’ll be rather good.

Trader Joe’s Goodness

If you’re fortunate enough to live anywhere near a Trader Joe’s, you probably already know about their fine selection of quality foods at reasonable prices.

And if you’re on Weight Watchers, it just gets better! Allow me to shine some light on a few of my favorite Trader Joe’s items.

Tuna Lunch with Mediterranean Vinaigrette

The title pretty much sums it up. This concoction is not only tempting in its taste, but take a look at the nutritional information:

  • 260 calories, 10g fat, 6g fiber = 5 Points

One box 7.5 oz. equals one serving and with everything that’s inside, this tuna lunch should be enough to fill you up. In fact, it’s not uncommon for Ann and myself to split one box and make sandwiches for each of us.

If I do have one complaint, it’s the amount of olives included in the mix. I have never liked olives and do anything I can to avoid them. In this case, I pick them all out and enjoy what’s left: tuna, garbanzo beans, green beans, sun-dried tomatoes, zesty lemon juice, etc. It truly is tasty.

I usually only buy one of these per visit because they need to be consumed promptly to retain freshness, and it’s a rare occasion when I want to have tuna (of any kind) two days in a row.

Organic Lentil Soup

What? Have I lost my mind? Absolutely not. I gave this one a shot and not only liked it, I now end up buying several of them to take to work when I don’t know what to eat for lunch. Quick and easy.

The numbers:

Each 15 oz. can is about two servings, the total per can is:

  • 260 calories, 3g fat, 16g fiber = 2 Points

Ahem. Two measly Points, people. And it’s good! Sure, I know there are some soups out there that tout zero Points but I know what I like, and this is definitely it. Trust me, 15 oz. of this stuff is definitely a good way to fill up at any meal and not feel cheated in the flavor department. I usually alternate between this stuff and the Minestrone varieties (which I brought to work today).

So if you have a Trader Joe’s in your area, stop by and give these a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed πŸ™‚

Changes

First, allow me to apologize for my recent absence. As you may have read on my other blog, there are problems in my neighborhood that need to be resolved and I’m doing what I can to help. As such, I’ve been really busy lately, so I’m sorry for the lack of posts.

Anyway…

I’m finally starting to notice some changes on me. First, I can actually see my clavicles which, to be quite honest, I don’t I’ve seen this clearly since…ever! While I’m by no means muscular or ripped, just by seeing them I get the impression that I am in much better shape than I had been before. It just feels good to see that.

My face is also considerably less chunky and it seems that I’m shaving more often than usual. Perhaps it’s because the hair doesn’t have that much skin to grow through, I don’t know. But I do know I’m shaving every other day as opposed to every third day.

My hands and feet appear more muscular and veins are more apparent in them and in my legs. Suffice it to say, this is nothing I could brag about when I wore size 48 pants!

Things are definitely looking up from this point and at my current weight on 220.9 lbs., I’m this close to cracking the 210s. I should be there for the next weigh-in, so I’m cool with all of that.

I hope this gets you moving, people. If this fat guy can drop his bad habits and start to brag about how great he feels and looks, you can do it, too.
